World AIDS Day was first marked on December 1, 1988, at the initiative of the World Health Organization, after a call for social tolerance and increased exchange of information on HIV and AIDS at a meeting of health ministers from all countries.
Since then, World AIDS Day has been marked annually. Its main purpose is to draw public attention to this problem.
World AIDS Day has become one of the most recognized international health days and an important opportunity to raise awareness and prevention of this disease.
