The Calendar of Remarkable and Memorable Events. May 26
This day marks the 80th anniversary of Vitalii Oleksiiovych Korotych – a prominent Ukrainian poet, essayist, translator and doctor.
Born in 1936 in Kiev, he graduated from the Kiev Medical University in 1959 and worked as a doctor between 1959 and 1966. Later, he gave up his medical practice to concentrate on writing full-time.
Since 1961, his works were printed in magazines and periodicals like Literaturnaia gazeta (Literary Newspaper), Otechestvo (Motherland), Dnepr (Dnieper), and others. The first poetry collection, “Golden Hands” was released in 1961, the second one – “The smell of the sky” – in 1962. The poet`s works have been translated into 20 languages. Korotych is the author of films in collaboration scenarios: “Ukraine. Land And People”, “I Am A Diver – 2”, “This Late And Warm Autumn” , “To Be Or Not To Be?”, of the cartoon “And Their Sister Lybid.”, a noted editor-in-chief of Ogonyok (Spark) magazine.
